Grandson Jailed for Life After Christmas Eve Stabbing of Grandmother

A 39-year-old man has been locked up for life after brutally stabbing his 77-year-old grandmother-in-law over 100 times in a horrifying attack just before Christmas.

Adam David Wright launched the savage assault at June Henty’s home in Wickham around 8am on December 23, 2023. The pensioner fought for six months in intensive care but sadly died from her horrific injuries in June 2024.

Victim Heroically Identifies Attacker Before Passing

Despite suffering severe head and neck wounds and massive blood loss, Mrs Henty managed to tell police that Wright was her attacker before slipping into a coma. Her brave testimony led to Wright’s immediate arrest the same day.

He was initially charged with attempted murder, but after Mrs Henty’s death the charge was upgraded to murder. Wright pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court and was sentenced to life with a minimum of 24 years behind bars.

Family Left Shattered by Tragedy

“Our beautiful mum June was brutally taken from us, and as a family we are heartbroken,” the family said.

“She was a kind and loving lady who always put her family first. She was our world, and we were hers. We have lost the heart of our family and feel utterly broken without her.”

Police and Prosecutors Slam ‘Senseless’ Attack

Detective Inspector Tim Judd praised Mrs Henty’s courage. “Thanks to her, we identified Adam Wright as her attacker. No sentence will bring June back, but I hope seeing Wright behind bars offers some closure.”

Prosecutor Desmond Duffy described the stabbing as “truly horrific and senseless,” condemning Wright’s drug and alcohol use the night before as no excuse for the brutal crime.

Justice Served for Christmas Eve Horror

The chilling attack happened after Mrs Henty refused to give Wright cash just two days before Christmas. The judge insisted Wright serve at least 24 years before parole, ensuring a lengthy prison stint.

This shocking case has rocked Hampshire, shining a light on the dark toll family violence can take.
