A fatal incident unfolded near Whitstable last night when a person was struck by a train, prompting emergency services to rush to the scene. The tragedy took place on the railway line between Whitstable and Sittingbourne at approximately 9.50pm on April 22.
The British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) responded swiftly after receiving reports of a casualty on the tracks. A BTP spokesperson stated: “Officers were called to the line near Whitstable at 9.52pm yesterday following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
SECAmb confirmed: “Multiple crews attended the incident, including a critical care paramedic. Sadly, a person was declared deceased at the scene.”
The railway line between Whitstable and Sittingbourne was closed for several hours while emergency teams worked at the site. During the closure, buses replaced Southeastern train services via Faversham. The railway reopened at around 1.40am, with services returning to normal on April 23.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatality. No further details about the person involved have been released at this stage. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic event.
