Sussex Police are conducting an investigation following the discovery of three women found dead in the sea off Brighton early on 13 May. Emergency services were alerted at approximately 5:45am after concerns were raised about the welfare of the women in the water near Madeira Drive.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) promptly dispatched both the Brighton Lifeboat and the Shoreham All-weather Lifeboat shortly after 6am. However, these lifeboats have since been stood down.
A police cordon remains in place at the scene while officers work to identify the women and establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
Chief Superintendent Adam Hays described the situation as tragic and confirmed that police enquiries are progressing rapidly. He urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to carry out their work without interruption.
Details of the emergency response include Sussex Police being called at 5:45am, the launch of Brighton and Shoreham RNLI lifeboats at 6am, and the recovery of the three women’s bodies near Madeira Drive.
The incident has had a significant impact on the local community. Authorities have called for calm and cooperation as the investigation continues. Updates will be provided when confirmed information becomes available.
