Sussex Police are currently investigating the stabbing death of Tyio Day at Moon’s Lodge hostel in Brighton during the early hours of Sunday, April 26. Emergency services responded promptly to a serious altercation at the hostel, where Tyio, also known locally as Marcus, was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics’ efforts to save him.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody as inquiries continue. In addition, another man believed to be in his 30s sustained serious injuries during the same incident and is receiving treatment in hospital.

The tragic death of Tyio Day has deeply affected the Brighton community. Found murdered at Moon’s Lodge, Tyio’s family describe him as a lovable but quiet individual who endured a difficult childhood, having lost his mother and struggled with drug addiction. Loved ones have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for his funeral, highlighting the challenges Tyio faced and calling for support during this difficult time.

Police swiftly arrested the 26-year-old suspect connected to the stabbing and are continuing their investigation under Operation Wenthill. Witnesses and anyone with footage or information related to the incident are urged to contact Sussex Police online or via 101, quoting the operation reference.

The second man injured in the stabbing remains under medical care, though Sussex Police have not yet provided further updates on his condition.

Tyio Day’s family have publicly expressed their grief through a heartfelt statement on their GoFundMe page. They are seeking assistance with funeral costs and raising awareness of Tyio’s difficult life story and tragic end.
