Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, supported by Nottinghamshire crews, responded to a major three-storey house fire in Normanton, Derbyshire, on the morning of Thursday, May 28. The fire, which started at 9.03am, was caused by an e-scooter and caused significant damage to the property as well as affecting neighbouring homes.

Firefighters from multiple stations including Ascot Drive, Kingsway, Nottingham Road, Long Eaton, Alfreton, Ilkeston, Ashbourne, Belper, and Stapleford rushed to the scene. They faced flames engulfing all three floors of the terraced house.

The fire spread into the loft spaces of adjacent houses, raising concerns about further property damage and demonstrating the intensity of the blaze.

Group Manager Rob Leverton confirmed that six people were inside the house when the fire started. While some residents escaped without injury, others had to jump from windows to get away from the flames.

Emergency services treated several individuals at the scene. One person was taken to hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Others received treatment for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

Rob Leverton of Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said, “Some residents managed to leave safely, but others were forced to escape by jumping out of windows.”
