Police in Dover have intensified efforts to tackle a rise in motorbike and moped thefts reported across the town between January and May 2026. The incidents have been recorded in areas including St Radigund’s, Whitfield, and Buckland. Offenders have also been seen riding mopeds without number plates and engaging in antisocial behaviour.

Authorities have responded by increasing high-visibility patrols and conducting proactive vehicle stops in key locations. These measures aim to disrupt theft activities and prevent antisocial riding. Local partnerships are also being engaged to address these issues effectively.

Several arrests have been made in connection with the thefts. Among those charged are three boys aged between 14 and 17, accused of stealing a Honda moped and a Kawasaki motorbike. They remain on bail with conditions as they await their hearing at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court.

Chief Inspector Liz Cokayne-Delves commented on the situation, saying: “We understand the distress theft causes to owners and the community. We are committed to using robust enforcement and prosecution where necessary.” She also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity promptly to support police investigations.

To prevent motorbike theft, police continue to carry out regular bail checks and advise vehicle owners to secure their bikes with locks, remove keys, and cover them when not in use. For more detailed advice on vehicle security, residents are encouraged to visit the Kent Police website.
