A street in Chichester remains cordoned off this evening after it is believed a man was in a the shopping with a gun.
Armed officers from West Sussex Police supported by dog units have cordoned off a large section of West Street in the main shopping area. the incident started at approx 8.45pm this evening(Sunday)
The cordon has been set up outside the banks with a second cordon is at the top of West Street. One bystander who witnessed the drama unfold said, “We were walking back to uni to our house and we couldn’t go the way we usually do because of a cordon. We were told it was a firearms incident. We saw police with dogs and several officers with firearms.”
The shocked bystander continued, “I’m very shocked that something like this could happen in Chichester. It’s usually a lovely place to live.”
Police have been advising the public to stay away from the area whilst they deal with the incident
