Three men have been arrested in a high-profile counter-terror probe following a blaze at a mosque in Peacehaven. The fire, which erupted on 4 October last year, sent shockwaves through the community and sparked a lengthy police hunt.
Suspects in Custody
A 36-year-old man from Eastbourne is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson. A 38-year-old man from Brighton faces charges of malicious communications and criminal damage. Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man from Saltdean was arrested for malicious communications and aiding crime under the Serious Crime Act 2007.
The arrests took place on Tuesday 24 March and were led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) with support from Surrey and Sussex Police’s Major Crime Unit.
The Mosque Fire
The fire started outside the mosque on Phyllis Avenue while two people were inside. Thankfully, both individuals escaped unharmed. The attack deeply unsettled the local community and triggered the counter-terrorism investigation.
