Two men from Portsmouth have been jailed following a police operation that uncovered the supply of cocaine and cannabis in January 2024.
On 13 January, officers observed 26-year-old Bledar Canaj complete a drug deal on Arundel Street before boarding a taxi. The police stopped the taxi and found two bags of cocaine and cannabis, along with cash on Canaj, preventing further drug sales.
Subsequent searches of Canaj’s flat on Paine Road uncovered around £2,500 in cash and additional cannabis. During the search, 34-year-old Alex Xhediku arrived at the property and was arrested.
Further searches of Xhediku’s home on Posbrooke Road revealed £143,040 in cash divided between two bags and 600 grams of cocaine hidden in the loft.
Both men pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, as well as possession of criminal property.
On 29 May, Xhediku was sentenced to 45 months imprisonment at Portsmouth Crown Court. Canaj, who was on bail at the time, failed to appear for sentencing and now faces separate legal proceedings.
Portsmouth police continue their efforts to disrupt drug networks in the city and encourage the public to report any drug-related information to assist in combating local crime.
