Drunk Lorry Driver Crashes Into Parked Car and Holiday Park Packed with Families

Janis Rimovics, a 50-year-old lorry driver from southeast London, has been jailed after a terrifying booze-fuelled rampage in Sussex. The Feltham resident was caught driving more than three times over the legal alcohol limit before crashing into a parked car and barreling into a busy holiday park packed with families and children.

Boozy Crash Causes Chaos in Sussex

On August 25, Rimovics was behind the wheel of his massive 44-tonne articulated lorry in Pagham, Sussex, when he smashed into a parked vehicle on Church Lane. He then sped recklessly into a nearby holiday park, putting visitors and kids at serious risk. Attempts to reverse the lorry out failed, and it took bystanders to convince him to stop before police were called.

So Drunk He Could Barely Stand

When officers arrived, Rimovics was visibly wasted, struggling to stand and later nodding off in his cab. Police found empty vodka bottles inside, and tests showed his breath contained a staggering 128 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres—more than three times the legal limit of 35μg.

Jailed and Banned from the Roads

Rimovics faced charges for dangerous driving and driving under the influence. At Portsmouth Crown Court on October 18, he was sentenced to four months behind bars and disqualified from driving for 18 months.

“Rimovics was in charge of a large lorry while more than three times the legal alcohol limit. He posed a serious risk not only to himself but to every other road user. We are pleased that a dangerous driver has been taken off our roads.” – Acting Sgt Steven Lambeth, Roads Policing Unit
