Serial Shoplifter Jailed After £2,000 Crime Spree Across Worthing and Arun
Shoplifting Spree Sparks Outrage
Joanne Cook, 36, from Broadwater, has been locked up after a cheeky two-week shoplifting rampage across Worthing and Arun. In just 14 days, she swiped nearly £2,000 worth of booze, meat, cosmetics, and cleaning goods from a string of local stores.
Crime Wave Hits Major Retailers
Cook targeted numerous Co-Op stores on South Street, Cricketers Parade, and Goring Road, plus big names like Sainsbury’s at Lyons Farm, Boots in Rustington, Tesco in Rustington, and more. Her brazen thefts broke a court order aimed to keep her in check.
Thrown Behind Bars for Breaching Court Orders and Carrying a Knife
Charged with 14 counts of shoplifting, 12 breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order, and possession of a bladed weapon, Cook pleaded guilty. Lewes Crown Court sentenced her to 34 weeks in prison on 22 July.
Police and Businesses Join Forces Against Retail Crime
Emily Baker of Worthing Investigations hailed the conviction as a victory. She said, “Despite previous convictions and court orders, Cook continued to offend, creating chaos for retailers. This sentence shows we’re serious about tackling shoplifting at all levels.”
Sussex Police urged local businesses to report crimes promptly to help nab offenders and protect communities.
With a long history of offending, Cook’s jail time sends a clear warning: breaking the law and court orders will land you behind bars.
