Nigel Farage has criticised Sir Keir Starmer, boldly predicting the Labour leader will be removed as Prime Minister before the end of May. The trigger, according to Farage, is the explosive Mandelson vetting scandal which he says has destroyed Starmer’s credibility and will lead to a Labour mutiny following local election results.
Mandelson Scandal Rocks Starmer’s Leadership
Speaking at a rally in Barnsley, Farage condemned the Prime Minister’s controversial decision to appoint Lord Mandelson as Britain’s ambassador to the US despite Mandelson failing crucial security vetting. “The very thought that Mandelson was even chosen in the first place is quite extraordinary,” Farage said. “The thought that the PM wanted this guy to be there on Pennsylvania Avenue without any vetting process having been done is astonishing.”
Farage emphasised the serious risks involved, noting that Mandelson would have had access to top-secret intelligence, including details of Britain’s nuclear capabilities. He also criticised Starmer’s reputation as a “man of process,” saying, “He has ridden roughshod over normal procedure. His actions and his judgement are seriously in doubt. I think his credibility is shot to pieces.”
Labour on the Brink After Election Disaster?
The Reform UK leader warned that Starmer will “cling on” until polling day on 7 May but predicted a Labour rout in the Red Wall, South Wales, and Scotland would end his tenure. “If Labour get obliterated in the Red Wall, in South Wales and in Scotland, then he’ll be gone by the end of May,” Farage declared.
These claims come as Sir Keir refuses to deny reports that Downing Street considered appointing former communications director Matthew Doyle—a figure himself embroiled in scandal—to a senior diplomatic role. Doyle had the Labour whip withdrawn after campaigning for a friend accused of possessing indecent images.
Starmer’s ‘Body Count’ Grows Amid Scandal
Senior officials continue to leave Starmer’s administration. Olly Robbins was recently dismissed from the Foreign Office, Chris Wormald was removed as head of the civil service in February, and Morgan McSweeney resigned as chief of staff. Farage predicts further resignations as the Prime Minister attempts to clear his team. “He’ll sack everybody around him, even if he’s the last man standing. He’ll never, ever take responsibility himself for anything that he’s done,” Farage said.
Reform UK Ready to Capitalise on Labour Woes
Farage expressed confidence that his party will gain ground in the local elections. Canvassing indicates Labour is “crumbling in its heartlands,” and he predicts Reform UK will gain over 1,000 council seats in England. He also aims to challenge Plaid Cymru in Wales and possibly surpass Labour in Scotland.
