Shock in Brighton: 70-Year-Old Trans Woman Arrested for Husband’s Murder

Joanna Rowland-Stuart, a 70-year-old retired LGBT rights worker, has been charged with murdering her husband, Andrew Rowland-Stuart, also aged 70. The gruesome attack allegedly involved a samurai sword and took place at their flat in Brighton.

Tragic Night on Lavender Street

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Lavender Street shortly after 7:30 PM on Monday, May 27th. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, Andrew was pronounced dead at the scene. The dramatic arrest was caught on exclusive video showing Joanna being handcuffed and led to a police car.

Deaf Defendant Appears in Court

Joanna, who is deaf and used a sign language interpreter during her court appearance at Crawley Magistrates, confirmed her identity. She has been remanded in custody ahead of her next hearing at Lewes Crown Court on June 3rd.

Investigation Ongoing, Police Appeal for Information

“This is a fast-moving investigation,” said Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team. “We are working to uncover the full circumstances of Andrew’s tragic death.
